Edward A. Fortin, age 73 died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Eddie was born in Peterborough, NH on November 27, 1949, to Robert (Bobby) and Rita (Griffin) Fortin. He grew up in Greenville, NH with his older brother Donald.
While growing up, Eddie enjoyed time with his cousins and friends, but was also an extremely hard worker. He held numerous jobs as a teenager before graduating from Mascenic High School in 1969. In August of 1969, Eddie was drafted into the United States Army and was sent to serve in Vietnam. He was a Flight Coordinator for the Army and spent time as a helicopter door gunner as well. Eddie's service in Vietnam ended in 1971. Upon returning to NH, Eddie started working for Coca Cola in Nashua, NH. He proudly worked for them for 24 years and was an avid collector of Coke memorabilia. When Coca Cola made plans to close the Nashua plant in 1995, Eddie took a job with SeaChange International in Greenville. He worked there until his retirement.
Eddie met the love of his life, Sarah Louise Thonney, on a blind date in 1973. They wed near Sarah’s hometown on July 12, 1975 in Moscow, Idaho. They lived in Milford, NH for a few years before moving to Mason, NH, where he remained until his death.
Eddie’s joys in life were his wife of almost 47 years, Sarah, and his two daughters, Amie and Kate. Sarah passed away June 5, 2022. While married, Eddie and Sarah enjoyed many years of travel in the US and to Baja, Mexico to visit Amie. He loved to tinker around their house in Mason, doing yard work, gardening and general housework. Eddie nicknamed himself “Joe Skirt”. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was a top notch story teller, avid puzzle completer, and an excellent cook who enjoyed researching and finding new recipes to try. He always made enough food to feed the neighborhood and often brought leftovers to his daughter, Kate. He loved being a grandfather to 3.5 year old Grace.
Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an extremely proud Patriot and Veteran. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and love him. Eddie is survived by his daughters Amie and her husband Rick Green of Escalante, Utah, Kate and her husband Chad Desmarais of Temple, NH. His brother, Donald Fortin of Greenville, NH, his grand daughter Grace Desmarais, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Fortin.
Family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend a funeral service at the Mason Congregational Church, 33 Valley Rd Mason, NH on Saturday April 15, 2023 at 11am.
