Obituary for Ernest L. Barrett Jr.
Ernest L. Barrett, Jr., 91, of Milford, NH, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020. He was born February 3, 1929, in Medford, MA, the son of Ernest and Flora (Ellis) Barrett. Ernest and his family moved to Milford when he was four years old and as an adult that’s where he decided to stay. Growing up, his family would spend their summers at Baboosic Lake in Amherst, NH. Ernest attended Milford schools until his sophomore year of high school. After that, he attended Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA, where he graduated in 1947. He went on to attend Bentley Business School as well as Nashua Business School where he received a degree in accounting. Ernest was very active in community service for the town of Milford. He served as Chairman of both the Milford School Board as well as the Milford Board of Selectmen and Town Moderator. He was an active member of the Congregational Church where he served as both a Deacon and the Treasurer. He was also a lifetime member of the Lions Club. Ernest married the love of his life, Mildred (Law) Barrett, on June 26, 1949, and they built a wonderful life together. Ernest worked for Clark’s Garage in Amherst, NH, and went on to buy the garage, renaming it Barrett Motor Sales. He was the owner for many years, He also worked for Maine and NH Granite Companies and Sundance Spas in Amherst, NH. He continued to do accounting services for many local businesses, and he retired in 2019 at the age of 90. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mildred, of Milford, NH; his daughters, Carolyn Barrett, of Litchfield, NH and Deborah Stucchi and her husband, Tim of Hudson, MA; his son, Jeffery Barrett and his wife, Renee of Gloucester, MA; his grandchildren, Jeff Smith, Holly Munsie and her husband, Jeff, Amy Candela and her husband, Adam, Peter Stucchi, Lisa Duprey and her husband, Joey, Katie Hammerstrom and her husband, Paul, Sam Barrett, Paige Barrett, and Jack Barrett; and his great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Munsie, Summer, Lilah and Sawyer Candela, Ava and Brielle Duprey, and Max and Mia Hammerstrom. Ernest is predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Whippie, and his great-granddaughter, Aubrey Duprey.
