Obituary for Ethel Marie Swett
Ethel Marie Swett passed peacefully at her home on February 16, 2017 in New Ipswich, NH at the age of 67. Ethel lost her 10-month battle with cancer, though she never lost her grace, her charm, or her smile.

She was surrounded by her children and loved ones. There was not a day that she thought about giving up. She held on to this life with hope, purpose and so much love around her.

Ethel is survived by her son Kristian M. Gove and his wife Stephanie (Tolley) Gove; daughter Elizabeth A. Swett and her fiancée Amy Hopkins; youngest son Mathew P. Swett and his wife Julia (Reissfelder) Swett, and their daughter Alexis; her brother Harvey Noseworthy; her sisters Deborah Moore and Karen Lapointe; her nieces and nephews; family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Sidney W. Swett Jr.

She was born on February 17, 1949 in Somerville, MA to Harvey and Ethel (McVarish) Noseworthy. In 1970, she graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education. On October 10, 1981 she married her late husband, Sidney. In 1998 she started teaching 7th Grade reading at Boynton Middle School in New Ipswich, NH. For almost two decades she touched the hearts and shaped the minds of hundreds of children with her knowledge, kindness, wit and her love of teaching.

Family and friends will remember Ethel as someone who fostered a love of learning in those around her. She was generous with her love, praise and encouragement. Her most cherished legacy was as a mother and a grandmother.

Ethel’s family would like to thank the nurses in the Oncology Department at Monadnock Community Hospital. They would like to also thank all the hospice nurses from Home Health Hospice and Community Services that helped make her last weeks as comfortable as possible.

In lieu of traditional funeral home services, a Celebration of Life will be held, where family and friends who had the privilege of knowing her can share memories and love. The celebration will take place at Townsend VFW, 491 Main St., Townsend, MA, between 11-2:30 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017. All are welcome to attend.
