Obituary for Gerald Sbona
Gerald E. (Jerry) Sbona, 75, of Wilton, NH (formerly of Marlborough, MA) passed away on August 16, 2017 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH with his wife at his side after an 8-year battle with Congestive Heart Failure. He was born on October 28, 1941 in Middletown, CT to Samuel and Ann (Lafferty) Sbona. Jerry and his family moved from Middletown to Marlborough, MA in 1946. Jerry graduated from Marlborough High School class of 1959 and then enlisted in the Navy where he was stationed in Washington, DC and Brooklyn, NY. He was a boatswain’s mate on a mine sweeper in the Caribbean and loved his ports of call. After the Navy, Jerry attended the University of Connecticut. He then worked for Pratty & Whitney and other companies in the Connecticut area until the early 1970s when he returned to Marlborough and worked for Raytheon and then Digital Equipment Corporation. Jerry returned to school at night at Bentley College while working full time at Digital. On April 23, 1990 Jerry met his wife Andrea at a training class at Digital Equipment Corporation. Jerry and Andrea then moved to the San Jose, CA area where Jerry worked for Oracle and other software companies. They then moved to Ann Arbor, MI for 3 years and then back east to Hudson, MA in the late 1990s before settling in Wilton, NH 11 years ago when Jerry retired. Jerry loved his home in Wilton on the hill where it was quiet and peaceful and he could tend to his yard and his vegetable garden and feed the birds and turkeys. Jerry was an avid Boston sports fan and followed the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. He could tell you the stats for all the players, would analyze the draft, and kept track of all the trades. His other passion was bass fishing. Jerry was a Charter Member of the Wayside Bassmasters Fishing Club and was a member of the state champion 8-man team in the late 1980s. More recently he was a member of the Clinton Lodge #52 of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Wilton, NH. Jerry loved a good joke, playing darts in his younger years, a good French red or German white wine, peanut butter, ice cream, and coffee. He enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles, reading John Grisham novels, watching the History channel, and talking politics. Jerry was predeceased by his father Sam in 1989, by his mother Ann in 2001 and his beloved step-mother Louise (Flagg) Sbona on May 2, 2017. Jerry leaves his wife of 20 years, Andrea (Bergeron) Sbona of Wilton; his sister Audrey (Sbona) Fisher and her husband Glenn of Conway, SC; his daughter Deneen Partridge of Colchester, CT; his grandson Jason Damon of Hawaii; his niece Debora Brand and her husband Bill of Conway, SC; his nephew Bob Brier and his partner Jason Schupbach of Washington, DC; a great-niece and nephew and 2 great-great nieces.
