Obituary for Harold Hayes
Harold George Hayes, 86, passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Harold was born May 31, 1930, in Nashua, NH, the son of George W. Hayes and Florence E. (Bailey) Hayes.

Harold attended high school in Hollis, NH, where he met his wife, Velma Carleton. After his marriage, he and his wife went to Wyoming where Harold made a living breaking horses for approximately a year, then traveled back to NH.

Harold’s love of farming started as a youth in Hollis, NH. In his early years, Harold became a member of the Civil Air Patrol. For a span he drove a truck for Reeds Ferry Lumber in Merrimack, NH. Harold continued his life as a carpenter from finish carpentry to house building. After retiring, he worked for a short span at Twin Valley Farm in Pepperell, MA, then at Wilkins' Farm Stand, for Russell Wilkins, also in Pepperell, MA.

Harold was a volunteer fireman in Merrimack, NH, until 1972, and again in Ossipee, NH, until moving to Greenville, NH, in 2000. Harold was extremely talented in crafts. He loved tooling leather, working with beads, making jewelry, and making a variety of items out of wood, from furniture to whirligigs. Harold also loved fly fishing. He made a portable wooden box for tying his own flies.

Harold is survived by his wife Velma H. Hayes; his daughter, Rosella Hartwell, her husband Dave, and step-son William R. Hayes; a half-sister, Dorothy Glinka; a half-brother, Charles (Micky) Hayes; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held from 1:00-4:00pm on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Ronald A. Philbrick Elderly Housing, 56 Main Street, Building #1 Community House, in Greenville, NH, 03048. Family and friends are welcome. Parking for visitors is in the back.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
