Obituary for Rachel Bourque
Rachel Louise Bourque, born November 14, 1929 in Hooksett, NH to Herbert and Leona LaSalle, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 27, 2017 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was predeceased by her husband, Fernand Emery Bourque and three brothers, Philip LaSalle, Rodolph LaSalle and Leon LaSalle. A gifted caregiver, Rachel received her RN through Regis College and Carney Hospital and her BS in Nursing from St Anselm's College. She worked for many years as an ER nurse at Memorial Hospital/SNHMC, beloved by colleagues and patients alike. After retirement she volunteered extensively at Nashua Crossing, a role she loved and where she made many dear friends.
A lifelong learner and creative, Rachel enjoyed sewing, reading, and solving difficult crossword puzzles with ease. She took up quilting in her later years which she loved and made each of her grandchildren a quilt. Rachel met life’s challenges with determination and the support and love of her family. She engineered her later years to be filled with adventure and world travel, surrounded with the people she loved, with time for learning, volunteerism, Dunkin Donuts coffee and eating lots of sweets. She received her first tattoo at the age of 80 which represented the love she and our father had for the cardinal and her most loved travel destinations. She loved Lake Winnipesaukee and was able to take a boat ride in August. Mom/Memere/Aunt was fiercely independent and feisty until the end. Our hearts are broken, and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children Donna Bourque Mohan and Tom Mohan of New Boston, NH , Dennis and Cheryl Bourque of Laconia NH , Diane Bourque Clark and Steve Clark of Greenfield NH and Linda Bourque Nicolai of Greenfield NH, grand children Sheena Mohan, Bridget Mohan Flanagan, Hayley Mohan, Naomi and Shayne Bourque, Corey and Olivia Clark, Anna Nicolai Hall, and great grandchildren (Daphne Flanagan, Logan Hall) as well as many nieces and nephews, countless friends, colleagues, patients, and strangers whose lives she touched with her clarity, compassion, thoughtfulness, and humor.
In Honor of Rachel’s Wishes, there will be a Mass of Intentions at St Anselm’s Abbey in Goffstown, NH. Please check back for the date and time.
She will be laid to rest in the Spring next to her beloved husband Fernand at Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua, NH.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH in her honor.
