Obituary for Sarah L. Fortin
Sarah L. Fortin, 71, of Mason, NH died unexpectedly, June 5, 2022, at her home. Sarah was born on September 4, 1950, she was the daughter of Larry and Phyllis (Webster) Thonney.

Sarah grew up on the family homestead (dairy farm) in Pullman WA with her sister and two brothers. While growing up, she was an avid reader, swim team member and was very involved in 4-H. She also loved to sew her own clothes and cook for her family. Her love of sewing brought her to pursue a BA in Home Economics & Textiles from Washington State University, graduating in 1972. Following graduation, she drove across the country solo to her new job with the 4-H Extension Office in Milford. In 1973 she met Eddie on a blind date, and they were married on July 12th, 1975, in Moscow, Idaho.

Sarah and Eddie lived in Milford for a couple of years until purchasing a home in Mason, NH. Here, they raised their two daughters. As the girls grew and began school, Sarah had some time to put her college degree to work. She became a Juried Member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in 1985. Sarah became a professional hand weaver and seamstress, weaving and sewing women’s clothing, blankets, throws, wall hangings, as well as baskets. She became a renowned artist receiving numerous accolades and awards from across the country as well as being featured in magazines, news papers and online media. With this recognition came requests for her to speak and teach at the National Weaver’s Conventions along with other contracted teaching positions around the country. She continued her work until shortly before her death.

Sarah was an excellent baker and cook. She made her Great Great Grandmonther’s recipe of French Cake Cookies for her friends and family every Christmas. She enjoyed teaching the girls to bake and sew along with members of their 4-H group. Sarah was very involved with her daughter’s activities and never missed one of their school events or sports games and spent countless hours helping with homework and school projects. She was very family oriented and traveled back to Washington State for family member’s birthdays and life events. She and Eddie also spent time traveling the USA, going on road trips together for weeks at a time. They enjoyed time in Utah and Baja Mexico with their eldest daughter. Sarah enjoyed reading and doing puzzles with her husband. She was proud to be a grandmother to 2 ½ year old Grace.

Sarah was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She will be sorely missed by all.
Sarah is survived by her husband Edward. daughters; Amie and her husband Rick Green of Escalante Utah, Katherine and her husband Chad Desmarais of Temple, NH. A brother Steven Thonney of Prosser of Washington, and a sister Janet and her husband Bill Adams of Florence ,Montana, a grandchild; Grace Desmarais. Sarah was predeceased by a brother Michael Thonney.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11:00am at the Mason Congregational Church. 33 Valley Road Mason, NH 03048. Burial will be at a later date.
